Christ the King CVA

Believe and Achieve at Christ The King

Prayer and collective worship

The children and staff at Christ will be helped to discover the importance of a personal ‘Encounter’ with Christ in the following ways during the Advent term and throughout the school year:

Collective Worship

  • The following liturgies have taken place this term: Harvest liturgy, Advent liturgy and Christingle liturgy.
  • The following masses have taken place this term: Start of Year Mass, Feast of All Saints, Family Mass for the Feast of Christ the King at St Peter’s Catholic Church.
  • Eucharistic Adoration – This was something we started last year and it had a profound impact upon on our school community evidenced by the feedback from children, staff and parents. As a result, we have scheduled this for the Lent and Pentecost terms this year.
  • Our Year 6 children will be visiting the Briars during the last week in December.
  • We have introduced class Masses this term for Years 1 -6. All the infant classes have been paired with a junior class and the idea is for the two classes to come together and celebrate Mass. We have purchased child-friendly Mass cards so the junior children can help the infant children to follow the Mass.  We hope it will help them to better understand what is happening in the celebration of the Eucharist.
  • Child-led liturgies take place weekly and are planned, led and evaluated by our children
  • Weekly Christian Meditation takes places in all classes
  • Daily Prayers
  • ‘Travelling Nativity’ - Prayer bags are sent home during the season of Advent to encourage our families to pray together during this important season.

Staff Training

  • David Wells visited our school this term and delivered a twilight session on Catholic Life and what it means to work in a Catholic School. This had a profound impact on our staff.   As a result, it is something we hope to replicate more frequently throughout the year.
  • All of our new staff have attended Diocesan training, Christian Meditation training and Child-led liturgy training this term which assists our staff to support our children to encounter the presence of Christ in the classroom.
